Settings reference

Navigator has no global settings screen. Every setting belongs to a flight, is stored with that flight, and comes back when you reopen it.

Three of the four settings do more than one job. Those extra jobs are the part worth reading.

Min Penalty Radius

Default 0.75 NM. The free radius around a checkpoint. Fly inside it and the checkpoint costs nothing.

The comparison carries a hundredth of a mile of tolerance, so a closest approach is free below 0.76 NM and starts the course penalty ramp at exactly 100 points there.

It is also the live auto-switch radius

The same number decides when a live flight advances to the next leg — Navigator switches once you are within this radius of the next waypoint, above rotation speed, and moving away again.

Widening it to be lenient about course accuracy therefore also makes leg switching fire earlier and further out. If you want a looser scoring radius but crisp in-flight switching, fly with the default and widen the radius afterwards when you re-grade.

Max Penalty Radius

Default 5 NM. The outer edge of the penalty ramp — 600 points — and the threshold past which a miss becomes a flat 1000-point bust.

It must be larger than the Min Penalty Radius. If the two are set equal or inverted, Navigator gives up on the ramp and charges the full 600 points for any miss outside the free radius.

Disable max miss limit

Default off. Removes the 1000-point cliff. Course points are then capped at 600 no matter how far off the checkpoint you flew.

Turn it on when your event has no bust rule, or when a flight that busted a checkpoint would otherwise be scored entirely by that one 1000-point event and you want to see the rest of it.

Takeoff speed / Rotation speed

Default 40 kts. Called Takeoff speed in the post-flight form and Rotation Speed on the live setup screen — the same setting either way.

It does three separate things:

  1. Track trimming (scoring). Leading track points are discarded while the speed between them is below this. This is what keeps taxi time out of your first leg.
  2. Takeoff detection (live). A live flight goes AIRBORNE and starts leg 1's clock the moment ground speed reaches this value.
  3. Leg switching floor (live). Automatic leg switching will not fire below this speed.

Set it below your rotation speed but well above your taxi speed. Too low and taxiing gets scored as flight; too high and the start of your first leg is trimmed away, or takeoff is never detected and the clock never starts.

There is a manual Start button on the live pre-flight panel for exactly the case where detection does not fire.

Secret checkpoints and fuel

Not really settings — per-flight scoring inputs, covered under secret checkpoint points and fuel points. Both categories are skipped entirely when left at their empty defaults: Total at zero for secret checkpoints, both fields blank for fuel.

Planned time formats

Planned leg times accept three forms, and you can mix them within one flight:

The value must be greater than zero. Anything else is rejected inline with "Invalid time. Use seconds or MM:SS."

In a live flight the parsing is lenient: an unparseable or empty planned time reads as zero rather than interrupting the flight, which shows up on the panel as a leg with "no planned time" and no target ground speed.

Live flights are graded with the defaults

The live setup screen only exposes rotation speed. A live flight is scored with the default 0.75 NM and 5 NM radii and the max-miss limit on, whatever you may have used on a previous flight.

To score a live flight with different radii, Save to Flights, open it, tap Edit, adjust the settings, and Grade Flight again. The whole score comes out exact — the recorded track is stored with the flight, positions and timestamps both. A live flight saved by an earlier build is the exception, and will not re-grade.
